Marcus — WDB02 Journal

The morality of deception. The field mouse in the harpegioness. Faith in Titus and Taweia. A new chapter in history.

Character: Marcus

Episode: WDB02: Lust for Comfort, Part I

Recently I was asked, as the emissary of the Lady of Truth, how fine a line it was to lie. I told the woman that I weren't responsible for the assumptions that people make and can only speak for ourselves. I believe that. But it didn't sit well with me as I considered the matter longer. While it's true that people will make their own assumptions based on their experience and leanings, it's hard to imagine allowing that misconception to continue once it's come to light. Is it dishonest, allowing them to believe what they wish if it gives us an advantage here and now? Or is it cunning in strategy? It still doesn't sit well with me, but for now, it's the best I got. And we'll trust the Lady to steer me back if we start splitting that hair a bit too fine. Currently, I feel very much like the field mouse who boldly steps into the harpegioness clad only in the arm of my belief. I feel their eyes on me. I feel their hunger. And while I am afraid, my faith in my Lady is strong. But more than that, I have faith in Titus. He led me and my family out of Pulex. He held the line at the wall against odds that would have crushed lesser men. And he alone was worthy of taking up Concord. One of three men in the entire history of the world. For the first time in my life, I'm seeing succession played out in real time. And it's truly breathtaking in its scope. Taweia, though, has given us a chance to start a new chapter in the history of the world. And I for one, plan on taking it.
