Episode: GGR3-11: Veritas Invicta, Part 3

Livia, I was raised by soldiers. They taught me how to fight so I could learn how to die. They all asked for the same things in the end. Mothers, whispered lovers, forgiveness, and time. Our grandsire used to say that men are afraid to die, but we are griffins. I wonder if he was fearful in the end. I pray I keep my fear. I pray. Soldiers say that your life flashes before your eyes when you breathe last. I don't think that's true. Not a flash. I think it happened slowly. These past days of existing — everywhere I look, I see a memory. Vivid. I see what it was. What it is now. Experiencing both in a flicker, at the same moment, has stretched them into a lifetime. Any blade of grass, blooming flower, or pressure in the air. The calmness of the water. It almost looks like glass in the morning. A lifetime. Serene. I've told every story, felt every happiness. Everyone's. I drank and ate of all that life has had to offer these past few days. A flicker of a smile. I get to see this all again and relive it through your eyes. Every memory, here and now. With you. Every smile, everything that you were and that you're not anymore, for that is the greatest blessing, has been you. Your laughter, your song. It happens slowly. Everything happens slowly. Life is fragile and so are we. When it's time to give someone your heart, just make sure that they are kind. Make sure that they will protect it. We all ask for the same things in the end. I asked for time, and it was granted. I'll see you tomorrow.
