EP14: Whom the Dawn Shines Upon

Season 1

Weisa's battle journal stands among the most powerful documents of the campaign: 'Blood. 'They were playing with us.' The elder's name is spoken aloud in death for the first time: YULIA.

Whom the Dawn Shines Upon. In the aftermath of the Broken Tower, the Fellowship discovers what survival feels like when the adrenaline recedes and the dead remain dead. Weisa's battle journal stands among the most powerful documents of the campaign: 'Blood. What a curious material. How it pumps through us and moves us. How it spills out in floods. How it sprays and trickles. It's quite an art to watch something die in a battle.' She names her combat bond with Titus: 'You are the fang, and I am the rattle.' Merick carries Granny Touchgem's body down from the tower at dawn — he himself was barely touched in the battle. The unfairness of this is not lost upon a man who once ran barefoot through a bog. He reports what the veterans already suspect: these Utini were different from those at Pulex. 'They were playing with us.' The elder's name is spoken aloud in death for the first time: YULIA. The watchtower is renamed Yulia's Watch. One hundred and thirty-two torches will burn there, one for each fallen defender.
