The mutual defense pact between Juramentum's defenders and the Death Tamers is sealed, though Titus calmly refuses their request to use the city's fallen for their undead army. Meanwhile, the Fellowship investigates the spot where Devran was nearly murdered, discerning that his attacker was both physically small and enormously strong. Megara, the demented chosen woman and would-be priestess of a new god, lurks still in the shadows. Weisa floats the idea of the young lord acting as bait. The Fellowship must reckon with the reality that this determined adversary is not departing anytime soon.
