EP44: Bone and Starlight, Part 2
The Return
Marcus and his beloved wife Alba have a gut wrenching conversation in which he reveals that he no longer feels the Lord of light, Quaylithon, but the Goddess of truth, Taweia.
Bone and Starlight Part 2 Weisa is in deep contemplation of her past, present and future. Her alcove at her mentor's bakery, the eponymous Publius pastries, hardly seems to belong to her anymore. Her half brother Mohi comes to visit and in the course of their conversation he relates that he is attempting to forge a new ethical path that does not currently exist in the world of muscle and blood. This system centers compassion and serenity as core values while still acknowledging the need for great strength in order to thrive in this violent world. Marcus and his beloved wife Alba have a gut wrenching conversation in which he reveals that he no longer feels the Lord of light, Quaylithon, but the Goddess of truth, Taweia. Feeling a profound sense of betrayal, Alba tells her lifelong love a break in my heart and points out that they may not even be married anymore. As they rejoined under Quaylithon's sight, Alba eventually flees from their tent. Without anywhere else to go, Marcus walks to the place that always brings him comfort, the pig pens. While he contemplates the future, a cloaked figure shuffles up to him. Marcus soon agrees to accompany this person to Aurelius Field to watch the drawn come. Devran makes some new kithgi friends and is invited to their home for witch's snack, a late meal. He and Mohi eventually meet and play a final game of succession which his older half brother taught him. During the game, Mohi's uncanny senses alert him to a passing presence which he goes to investigate. This turns out to be the old woman that Marcus is accompanying to the field and the two brothers join up with them. The four of them arrive at Aurelius Field. They learn the elder's name is Antonia and that she has been a true cleric of the same goddess as Marcus for over two centuries. She has served for this entire time as mistress of ten Troll Den, a special place of refuge for extraordinary children whom the Goddess of Truth directed to save from certain death. She has raised many generations of geniuses and chosen including Mohi for a time when he was very young. But now her own time has come. In Marcus, Devran and Mohi's company, she faces the dawn and seems to disappear beneath her robes as the first rays of the newly born day come to embrace her. Weisa goes to reconnect with Figulus Gnaeus, hut having not set foot in it since The Fellowship's return from the Isle of Tenderheart. Grip winds up accompanying her and himself experiences the place his legendary grandsire went to retire. Weisa asks Grip, how old do you feel? A question which begins what is likely to be an ongoing conversation between the pair about their inner experiences. During this, the duo hear a singing chanting coming closer to the hut. The trio of beloved Trisli, Justicar, Mirza and another figure approach. Grip immediately sets his sights on Trisli, staring relentlessly. Some tensions begin to rise between the two groups, which Trisily seeks to resolve with a bit of clarity on Grip's part. Ritual combat between the impetuous dragonkind and the third member of Trisli's group, Mithra, begins.
