EP39: Close Land, Far Shore
The Return
After a tense telepathic conversation wherein the dragon demands to know why the thin blood is consorting with hairless apes, Tecpotl erupts from the water, still holding the young manabender tightly in its claw.
Close Land Far Shore after considerable discussion, the Fellowship and what remains of the crew of the Zephyr settle on a plan of action to salvage as much as possible from the wreckage that chokes the island's coast and use Grip's shipbuilding expertise to cobble pull a seaworthy vessel from it. The combined crews also stop at Borolas now abandoned camp, beginning the work of stripping all of the potential relevant resources. Grip, Titus, Marcus and Khalid continue on to the southern shore, while Weisa and Nilishli remain in the camp. In the camp, Weisa raids both Kapio's old tent and Borolas former quarters, finding the spot where Jason was tortured and abused, she sets fire to both, raising them. She confides Nilishli that she has never been so drawn to Tezcatli, heavily implying that she has been considering ending herself. Nilishli both supports and rebukes her in forceful fashion, replying that Weisa will go to Tezcatli, the dread Mother many, many years from now. Grip swims out to salvage a mast from one of the wrecked ships, only to be ambushed by the young green dragon, Tecpatl. After a tense telepathic conversation wherein the dragon demands to know why the thin blood is consorting with hairless apes, Tecpotl erupts from the water, still holding the young manabender tightly in its claw. Instead of fear, Grip experiences quite the opposite as he looks upon the world from a unique aerial view. Even as Tecpatl dives towards the beach, the young teen screams in exhalation. He learns a key law set down by the most powerful of all known Green does not kill Green. A brief yet intense argument breaks out between Titus and Grip, with the latter arguing that Titus must abjectly debase himself before Tecpatl or suffer its wrath. Marcus attempts to stop the fight, but is largely unable to. Still, in the following days, the blended crews work hard to get all of them off the island. In a private conversation, the captain of the Zephyr asks Khalid, are they our problem?
