EP33: Long Bright Day of the Soul

When he at last touches what appears to be Jason's former weapon, Concord, he is sent to a place within himself — or perhaps within the sword — where he must face both himself and at least one of his predecessors.

Long Bright Day of the Soul. The defenders of Juramentum continue to match wits with the final obstacle upon their path to the tomb of Jason Tenderheart. During the contest, their gracious host Vipo introduces a new chosen to them — a sullen, scaled boy who calls himself Grip. That same host has Grip take the next guess at his game, which proves to be wrong. At this point, Tesserin, the Warden of the Storm, appears, exhorting Vipo to not proceed with his intent, for the creature that Vipo threatens to set free upon a second wrong answer is a Blood Guard — stewards of the abyss, fashioned by the Lord of Destruction, the God Tigurin. Vipo persists, and luckily Marcus arrives at the correct solution to their tormentor's puzzle. Tesserin departs with some final words of encouragement to Grip, who was apparently the one who brought the scaled boy to the Fellowship. Titus prepares himself for at last seizing his destiny. Inside the cathedral that houses Jason Tenderheart's final resting place, Marcus bolsters his spirits with fatherly words, then stands vigil at the threshold along with Nilishli. Titus comes to the tomb itself, viewing the greatest hero Terra has yet seen in marble effigy. When he at last touches what appears to be Jason's former weapon, Concord, he is sent to a place within himself — or perhaps within the sword — where he must face both himself and at least one of his predecessors. There he learns about the past and what his destiny might be, but only if he can conquer his worst fear. Concord weighs his responses closely and in the end agrees to accompany him on his journey, for as long as the flesh shall endure. The young lord swears himself to the Goddess of Justice's service of his own free will, and turns to rejoin his companions. With him comes a weapon of legend and the beginnings of an actual chance of defending the fragile Dream.
